The Philadelphia 76ers have long envisioned an NBA title run built around All-Star center Joel Embiid. But that dream has been repeatedly derailed by Embiid’s history of injuries. According to a recent report, the team now holds “genuine concern” about the ongoing issues with the Cameroonian star’s knee.
Last season, it wasn't the best for Embiid and the 76ers. He dealt with knee injuries, limiting him to just 19 games. The organization had no choice but to rule him out for the rest of the campaign. This also caused the team to miss the playoffs.
Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins thinks the 76ers need a significant overhaul due to their current situation.
The 76ers' Reset Starts With Embiid And Daryl Morey Gone
Since 2020, Daryl Morey has been part of the 76ers' front office. He's somewhat responsible for the level of success that the team has had based on the moves he made as the president of basketball operations.
But Perk also feels that he and Embiid ought to be removed from the situation. The 2008 champion revealed his thoughts on the 76ers in the recent edition of "Road Trippin'." He added that trading All-Star forward Paul George is part of the team's reset.
"I would hit the reset button all across the (expletive) board, and it’s not just trading Joel Embiid and Paul George, but I’m also hitting on the reset button on who actually paid those guys and jumped the gun, right," Perkins said.
"It’s time to clean the front office, like let’s be real here man Daryl Morey has not done a great job, Daryl Morey knew about these injuries and what Joel Embiid was dealing with, Morey gave Embiid an extension."
Perkins also questioned the 76ers for letting Morey take over the team. The ESPN analyst believes it's time for Philly to move on from him.
The change that Perk talked about also involved rising star Tyrese Maxey. Although he believes that he shouldn't be traded. Instead, the front office should focus on building a competitive team around him.
