Several NBA players have received contract extensions from their respective teams. However, All-Star guard Trae Young is yet to receive a contract extension from the Atlanta Hawks. Young is eligible to sign a four-year, $229 million extension from the Hawks. However, the organization is yet to make an offer.

According to the recent report from Marc Spears, the star guard is reportedly "disappointed" with the lack of movement from the front office. The Hawks have made significant additions to their roster (Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard. Despite these moves, the main concern for Young is for him to receive a new deal from Atlanta.

Amid the contract stalemate, former NBA player Eddie Johnson chimed in and gave Young a piece of advice.

Eddie Johnson Urges Young to Stay Patient

While some fans might think Johnson doesn't know what he's talking about, the point that he wants to get across is that Young will eventually get paid.

"They’ve already given in to him quickly on the last contract," the 1989 Sixth Man of the Year said on a chat with Termine Radio. "They didn’t fight him on that one. They gave it to you. And it paid 37, 40, and 43 million. I don’t understand. Just be patient, man. Just look at the big picture here."

Johnson also added his take on Young's recent reaction to Micah Parsons' trade request from the Dallas Cowboys. Recently, Parsons requested a trade out of Dallas and the Hawks star backed his fellow athlete. According to the four-time All-Star, the front office ought to have covered the defensive end's salary. "I think he should accept it. Don’t get immature and start sending out tweets, and start doing all that. Because you are going to kick and scream and don’t get your way right away, when everybody knows, you’re gonna get paid!"

Given that he's a star in the league, it's expected that Young will get a sizeable contract soon. However, he likely wants to receive an offer regarding his future in Atlanta soon. For the Hawks, they aren't in a rush since there is still time. The franchise can sign the former No. 5 pick to a new contract until June 20, 2026.
