Emory Jones is getting a chance to take a roster spot on the 53-man roster. The way he got this opportunity for the Falcons comes from posing as the Rookie of the Year during a week of practice.

The Atlanta Falcons QB controversy has been well documented throughout the offseason. The Falcons have explored options to potentially move on from Kirk Cousins, but nothing has materialized yet, and his presence could pose a challenge for Michael Penix Jr.
“So much boils down to the quarterback position, but especially here. Michael Penix Jr. flashed in three starts as a rookie but is hardly a proven commodity. QB2 Kirk Cousins is battle-tested … and his presence is likely to add to the burden of Penix, who will almost undoubtedly struggle at some point – and perhaps from the jump, Atlanta facing four postseason squads from last season among its first five opponents,” USA Today’s Nate Davis wrote.
“It will be interesting to see if any potential landing spots present themselves throughout the season. If this happens and Penix plays as expected, it wouldn't be shocking to see the Falcons turn the page on a player who continues to invite drama that should already be behind the improving franchise,” Halden wrote.
While the top QBs are receiving most of the attention, Emory Jones and Easton Stick are battling for a potential roster spot if the Falcons decide to carry three quarterbacks. On Friday, both saw playing time. However, the story of how Jones earned his chance speaks volumes about his skillset.
“Emory Jones was initially signed by the Falcons last season to be the scout team QB, mimicking Jayden Daniels before ATL played the Commanders. Jones impressed so much, he has stayed on with the team,” Falcons beat reporter Marc Raimondi wrote.

Mimicking Daniels isn’t easy by any means, especially considering Daniels won the Rookie of the Year award. Jones didn’t see much action in the second half due to an unfortunate injury to Lions cornerback Morice Norris. The Falcons know what Jones brings to the table, and even if he doesn’t make the roster, Atlanta could keep him on the practice squad in a similar role. If Jones channels that Daniels-like mindset and ability again, he could very well earn a spot on the roster.
