Browns at Panthers preseason game | How quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders, Tyler Huntley played

How did Browns quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Tyler Huntley perform in the preseason opener in Carolina? Here's a look at their games.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Browns opened the preseason with a 30-10 win against the Carolina Panthers Aug. 8.

The story of the game remained what the story of the entire training camp has been for the Browns: Quarterbacks. There was an added layer to this one, however, with rookie fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders making his first NFL start.

Sanders was one of two quarterbacks who played in the game. Tyler "Snoop" Huntley replaced Sanders in the third quarter and played out the duration of the game.

Joe Flacco was a healthy scratch for the game, which was expected after the joint practice with the Panthers Aug. 6. Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel have been limited for at least the last week due to hamstring issues.

Here's a breakdown how Sanders and Huntley did in the preseason opener against the Panthers:

It was the kind of night that will do little to quell any push to have Sanders higher up on the depth chart than where he currently is, which is No. 4. He completed 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns and a 106.8 passer rating.

The thing about Sanders' performance was the way he clearly looked like he got comfortable as it went along. That was evidenced by the fact his best quarter out of the three in which he played was the second one, where he was 6-of-8 for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

Sanders' third quarter was marred by some pre-snap penalties that put the Browns in bad position. He still managed to lead an abbreviated six-play, 43-yard touchdown drive that ended with Gage Larvadain's 4-yard touchdown run.

"You're not gonna make every throw, and you know that's part of this game," coach Kevin Stefanski said. "So any of our young players, we talked to them last night about this first game and the jitters that come with the first game. So I thought all the guys handled that well."

How did Tyler 'Snoop' Huntley perform against the Carolina Panthers?

Huntley's night started with 2:11 remaining in the third quarter. It ended with three kneeldowns with the Browns taking over for the final time with 1:52 left.

The quarterback who was signed off the street Aug. 4 acquitted himself about as well as one could expect. He completed 6-of-8 passes for 51 yards, with a touchdown and a 130.7 passer rating.

Huntley's touchdown was a 6-yarder to rookie Cade McDonald. His longest one was a 19-yarder to tight end Sal Cannella to set up that touchdown.
