South Carolina receiver Jared Brown grows as route runner, all-around receiver as the Gamecocks begin 2025 season.
South Carolina wide receiver Jared Brown steps into an enhanced role after the departure of Dalevon Campbell to the NFL.
Brown caught 15 passes for 244 yards during his first season with the Gamecocks. The former Coastal Carolina Chanticleer ranked sixth in receiving yards for South Carolina, third among returning players.
The redshirt senior wants to see improvement in his route running and become an overall better receiver ahead of his final year at South Carolina.

Injuries plagued Brown in his first season in Columbia, limiting the wideout to only three starts and nine games. Brown looks to see the injury tent less in 2025.
From the end of the 2024 season to now, Brown believes he has grown the most as an “all-around receiver.”
“Coach (Mike) Furrey is a big part in that,” Brown said. “… Just the overall of being a real true receiver I’m getting better at.”
Furrey spoke on Brown during the spring ahead of South Carolina’s annual Garnet and Black Spring Game. At that time, the wide receivers coach emphasized growing Brown from the “gadget guy” he was at Coastal Carolina.
“Sometimes you can get stuck with that, right? All of a sudden, when you go somewhere, it’s like, can you really become a wideout?” Furrey said. “… So our challenge to Jared Brown this offseason was to develop him as a wideout. Develop your releases, develop your stems, work on transitions, and understand how to get the catch points. Not just rely on your talent, because you’re super talented, and don’t rely on just the fact you’re a gadget player.”
Brown admitted that route running was missing from his game in 2024, holding him back from becoming the all-around receiver he sees himself as now.
“You can see a natural route runner in there,” Furrey said in March. “That all continues to grow, right, throughout spring. So again, I’ve been impressed with him also.”
