Jaydon Blue is making a quick case to get lots of action as the Dallas Cowboys running back right from the start of his rookie season.

But he hit a roadblock on Thursday when he left practice with an injury.

The speedy RB from Texas had his foot stepped on. It initially was reported as an ankle injury, but now the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Nick Harris has reported it's just a bone bruise in Blue's heel, based on an MRI.

Blue has been seen wearing a walking boot, but it sounds like he's avoided the worst-case scenario.

A fifth-round pick, Blue has already proven he belongs in the conversation for RB1 in Dallas.

The Cowboys let Rico Dowdle get away this offseason and have brought in all sorts of other rushers to compete for the job.

That includes a veteran duo of Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, who most assumed would split work early in the season.

Dallas also went on to draft Blue in the fifth round and then Phil Mafah out of Clemson in the seventh.

Their RB depth chart also includes the returning back Deuce Vaughn.

The Cowboys open the season on Thursday Night Football against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in a crucial NFC East contest. It'll be a huge stage.

And if the Cowboys have it their way, it seems at this point that they'd really like Blue to play a key role. Dallas will hope his injury heals quickly so he can get some preseason reps and be ready to go for that big curtain raiser.
