Maryland redshirt sophomore tight end Dorian Fleming has been named to the 2025 John Mackey Award preseason watch list, it was announced Friday.
Fleming transferred to Maryland this offseason after two seasons at Georgia State, where he emerged in 2024 as the team’s second-leading receiver. He recorded 49 receptions for 558 yards and six touchdowns, earning Second Team All–Sun Belt Conference, College Football Network All–Sun Belt First Team Offense, and HERO Sports G5 All-American honors. He also made the 2023–24 Academic Honor Roll for his performance in the classroom.
The John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding tight end, was established in 2000 by the Nassau County Sports Commission and honors the legacy of NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey.
Fleming is among 46 players on the John Mackey Award preseason watch list. Eight semifinalists will be announced on October 30, followed by three finalists on November 26. The recipient of the John Mackey Award will be honored during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show airing Friday, December 12 on ESPN.
Fleming is Maryland’s second offensive skill player named to a preseason award watch list. Redshirt sophomore running back Nolan Ray was named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list earlier in the week.
