The Georgia Bulldogs were back on the practice field on Thursday after having Wednesday off for the first time in camp. Here’s what we’re hearing on how that one went.

  • Illinois RB transfer Josh McCray returned to the practice field and should be good to go after dealing with an illness for the first week of camp.
  • I am told that Bo Walker continues to shine in camp with Cash Jones and Nate Frazier in that group. I don’t think Cash Jones gets enough talk. He will be a major part of this Georgia offense again this year.
  • Another day, another round sources commenting on the wide receiver room and guys there continuing to make plays in practice. Noah Thomas and Zachariah Branch continue to set the pace, and they have not really stopped since arrival. As a whole, I would have to imagine that James Coley is really happy with the start of multiple players, not just those two. I am confident in saying this Georgia wide receiver room is a lot different than it was last season.
  • On defense, it seems to be the same names that keep getting mentioned to me — CJ Allen, Christen Miller, and KJ Bolden. I was also told Gabe Harris had a nice day and was disruptive in team setting at the EDGE position.
  • The safety position next to KJ Bolden is the one spot I have a lot of eyes on and have reached out to some folks about where it is at this point going into the first fall scrimmage on Saturday. I think JaCorey Thomas is still penciled in at number one, but I am told that Adrian Maddox, the transfer from UAB, is also coming on. That seems to be something that could play out into the coming weeks. Sounds like Maddox has really made some progress at Georgia when the pads are on in camp based on what I am told.
  • I also did some checking on Dwight Phillips, Jr. and his weight, because it came up recently in a podcast. I am told he plays between 176-180 pounds, and that is up about 7 pounds consistently from last year. He is not a big guy, but man, ‘Peanut’ is dangerous. I think he will have some touches early this year, with more and more as the season goes on.
