Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler has shed light on the club’s transfer business, with the Limpopo side active in the market as they have already signed a staggering 11 players ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Babina Noko roped in notable players such as Miguel Timm on a free transfer from Orlando Pirates, Bradley Grobler from the now-defunct SuperSport United, Ronaldo Maarman, and Manuel Sapunga among new acquisitions.
Meanwhile, Sekhukhune parted ways with several players, including former Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo, Wonderboy Makhubu, who returned to his parent club Magesi FC after the end of his loan deal, and Kgomotso Mosadi, whose loan spell was also not made permanent.
Now, with the new season looming, the former Cape Town City mentor explained the factors behind the influx of players signing for the club. While he is pleased with the backing in the market, the 55 year-old tactician wants to trim the squad at his disposal.
“You must understand that when I joined, certain players were already signed by the club, then obviously I looked to bring in certain players that I think could strengthen the squad, I have done it already,” said Tinkler.
“I have been quite vocal about us bringing down the number that we currently have in the squad, to a more manageable number.
Tinkler went on to set the record straight that the club brought in a lot of players in a bid to add more depth to the playing squad, revealing that beefing up the team with quality replacements was on the agenda heading into the offseason.
“But I think in terms of the players that we have brought in, I think we have added a lot more depth into our squad, which was the main objective, to ensure that we have enough depth in the squad, knowing that we are going into a very congested season,” he added.
Sekhukhune registered a third-place finish in the Premiership last season, with Stellenbosch FC edging them to a CAF Confederation Cup spot by two points. Tinkler’s men visit Orlando Pirates in their league opener on Saturday.
Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler has hinted at more player exits in the coming weeks, following the club’s signing of 14 new recruits.
