5 Fever point guard options (Zia Cooke!) after Sydney Colson's injury

The Fever may need a point guard... and fast.

The Indiana Fever may need a point guard... and fast.

The team lost veteran guard Sydney Colson during Thursday night's away game against the Phoenix Mercury to a knee injury. The severity of Colson's injury will determine if the Fever need to quickly go out and find a new backup point guard.

With Fever superstar guard Caitlin Clark already out indefinitely with an injury and Aari McDonald the only true point guard on Indiana's roster, the team will have to find a replacement player for Colson if she's seriously injured. The team can't rush Clark back, so a free agent is the next best option if Colson is out.

Luckily for the Fever, there are some solid options in free agency to help Indiana as it keeps pushing for the 2025 WNBA playoffs.

Cooke recently found herself a free agent after being waived by the Washington Mystics after being traded there by the Seattle Storm. The former 2023 first-round pick offers youth and potential as a backup point guard, and she could slot into a valuable reserve role right away for Indiana.

Jaylyn Sherrod

Sherrod is another young player on this list with point guard experience, recently waived by the New York Liberty after winning a title with that team last season. While she hasn't played a ton this season, she could be a nice fit for Indiana who could earn a role with the team beyond the 2025 season with good play off the bench.

Kiana Williams

Williams played admirably for the Mercury during a couple of games last month, including a 17-point performance against the Dallas Wings on July 7. The 2021 second-round pick could be a steal after how well she played for the Mercury during her brief stint with the team. She presents perhaps the most intriguing fit on this list.

Moriah Jefferson

Jefferson has played in the WNBA since 2016, even if she has only played in five game this season with the Chicago Sky. If the Fever want experience, Jefferson has plenty of it to run the point off the bench.

Shey Peddy

Peddy is the most senior player on this list at 36, but she played solid basketball for the Los Angeles Sparks this season during her brief stint with that team. She averaged 5 points a game in six contests, including one against Indiana. Perhaps the Fever remember playing against her and give the veteran point guard a call?

Odyssey Sims

Sims presents a really intriguing option, having averaged 9.8 points for the Sparks this season. She could really add value to the Fever off the bench and run the point.
