DawgsHQ is focusing on the Georgia cornerback position this week and today we share the three players who have our attention.
The summer is here, and after enjoying an extended break in May, Georgia players have spent June and July working hard. The team’s focus has been on getting bigger, stronger, faster, and more connected.
That work has been done out of sight—but not out of mind. To ensure everyone stays informed about Kirby Smart’s 10th team at Georgia, we’re breaking down a position each week. It’s day four and we’re discussing the three cornerbacks we’re eyeing this season.
Dominick Kelly
He’s not going to start or even challenge for a starting spot, but it’s hard not to get at least a little excited about Kelly’s future in Athens. After reclassifying from 2026 to 2025, Kelly was the first early enrollee to join Georgia for its bowl prep in December. It didn’t take long for him to start causing a stir.
Kelly checks off all the boxes from a physical standpoint. He’s tall, long, runs well, and bends exactly like you want a cornerback to bend. The IMG Academy product also arrived at Georgia with quite a bit of polish to his game. He’s going to get challenged on the scout team early in the season and he might be able to challenge for a spot in the two-deep by the end of the year. But we’re just more interested in seeing more of him on the field. His G-Day showing was pretty strong.
Ellis Robinson
We’re betting that the former No. 1 cornerback in the country gets a better opportunity to put his talent on display in 2025. Smart said last season that Robinson was close to getting on the field. Apparently he wasn’t quite ready, but Georgia will need him to be ready this season. Per the intel we’ve gathered over the past month, it sounds like that’ll be the case.
Robinson is battling Daniel Harris for the starting cornerback position opposite of Daylen Everette. He might eventually overtake him although we see it as a battle that’ll last throughout the season. Georgia is fortunate to have to players that talented battling it out for a premium position. The question I have here centers around whether or not Robinson is a gamer. We didn’t see him play a ton last season but when he got into the game, it certainly seemed like he is.
Daniel Harris
Time will tell how the cornerback battle plays out but that’s not the only reason Harris is on this list. As of right now, I expect him to Georgia’s season opener. I think there’s a very, very good chance that happens so long as he’s healthy. So the intrigue isn’t related to his ability to hold Robinson off to start the season.
I’m more interested in how he has developed from last year to this year. If the spring game is any indication, Harris could be in for a breakout season. He looked fantastic on G-Day and intercepted Gunner Stockton on the second possession of the game. Is his competitive focus better than it was a season ago? Can he bring more physicality and competitiveness to the position? Georgia would benefit greatly from him moving much closer to his tremendous ceiling.
