We heard from Kentucky women’s basketball’s players during the team’s media day, and for the first time, we heard why Jordan Obi and Dominika Paurová chose to transfer to Kentucky over a year ago.
Obi in particular raved about Kenny Brooks and the vision he sold her on while recruiting her. But she would also be remiss if she didn’t also talk about the appeal of playing in front of a basketball-crazed fanbase like Big Blue Nation.
“[It was] Coach Brooks, mainly,” Obi explained. “He is an amazing coach. I really trusted in his vision. BBN is an awesome fanbase. Kentucky is a basketball place to be. Those are kind of the factors that played into it.”
“[He was telling me about] playing with, being surrounded with other like-minded elite level players,” she added. “Just being able to impact the team and just Kentucky women’s basketball as a whole.”
For Paurová, she also fell in love with the staff and the path they had set for her. The 6-foot-1 guard feels as if Brooks and the staff can bring out the best of her, both on and off the court.
“It was just the coaching staff,” Paurová mentioned. “I created a relationship with them, and I thought it would be a great time for me to be here. I could see the success behind the coaching staff and their vision that they had. Also, they’re really good at developing players and I want to get better, so I really like that.”
