After years of domination, the 2024/25 season was extremely underwhelming for Manchester City as they failed to win a major trophy for the first time since 2017.
They finished third in the Premier League points table last season behind champions Liverpool and second placed Arsenal.
Just like the Citizens, Phil Foden also struggled for form in the last term as he endured his worst season only 12 months after winning the PFA Player of the Year honour.
The England international's poor form saw him struggle for minutes in the last term and therefore he is desperate to win back Pep Guardiola's trust in the upcoming season.
However, with Kevin de Bruyne's departure, many people are expecting Foden to replace the Belgian midfielder at Etihad.
While Foden has vowed to replicate his 2023/24 campaign, he has also downplayed De Bruyne replacement rumours.

"I’m not sure where the manager sees me this year, I can play different positions but we all know my position is the insides, the pockets, so lets see what happens," Foden stated as per Goal.com.
"I’m not here to replicate what Kevin de Bruyne did because we all know how good he was and what he did for Man City. It’s about trying my best, getting to the level where I won Player of the Year. You can only train and get back to it, that’s what I’m trying."
What did Phil Foden say about Man City's new signings?
After last season's performance, City have invested big in the summer transfer window as they signed players like Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and James Trafford until now.
Foden believes that City needed to invest in newer players to help them make up for the last season as he highlights the importance of freshness in the roster.
"It always gets to a time when any club needs to add new players and freshen things up and we have done that in this transfer window," he said.
"And that can only be good for us as the players we have brought in are very high level and fit right into the team and give us something we need a little bit more, so we are here to help, and we have got a very good squad now."
"I think everyone wants to make up for last season, we all want to come to our best and winning titles."
Foden featured in 49 matches last season across all competitions registering 13 goals and six assists. In the Premier League he played 28 games, starting only in 20.
