Marlen Sewell met with media during fall camp on Wednesday, let’s break it down.
Question 1: “Can you take us through this off season and deciding to come back”
Marlen: “As y’all know I started my career here and I wanted to finish here. Coach Lea has a plan for this team and this is a great team. This is the best team I have been apart of since I got here. I wanted to finish here, this is home.”
Question 2: “A lot of talent in that safety room, how has it been being a returning team captain and moving those guys forward alongside you”
Marlen: “This is the most talented group since I have been here, we have had a bunch of older guys so it was more experience. Now we got a lot of young hungry guys ready to make plays. As a captain my goal is to get their attitude and mindset in the right place to be an SEC safety. They are doing great and I’m excited to see what they do in the fall.”
Question 3: “How do you think Dontae Carter has improved from last season?”
Marlen: “He has all the physical ability in the world, but his mental has shifted since last season. He’s grown up, he’s not in his immature ways anymore. He’s gonna be huge for us.”
Question 4: “You guys lost two guys with a ton of reps in [CJ] Taylor and [De’Rickey] Wright, how do you fill the void of leadership?”
Marlen: “Our athleticism is going to take us there, we are using it as an advantage for more reps, more plays. We are going to be the best unit on the defense.”
Question 5: “How do you reflect on how you have changed since you got here?”
Marlen: “You can definitely say this is my second home. I’ve definitely stepped into the leadership role more since when I was a freshman.
