Getafe continue to hold on to the unlikely dream of signing Real Madrid’s rising star Gonzalo Garcia, but the move appears to be firmly off the table for now.

According to MARCA, the young forward has no intention of leaving the Spanish giants, as he hopes to cement his place in Xabi Alonso’s plans for the upcoming season.

Gonzalo has made a major impression in recent months. A standout performer for Castilla, he stepped up during the absence of Endrick and did far more than simply fill in.

In just six matches, he outshone the Brazilian, both in terms of goals and overall impact. His tournament performance, which saw him win the Golden Boot, only added fuel to the idea that he should be given a real chance in the first team setup.

Getafe president claims agreement

Despite the clear difficulty of the situation, Getafe president Angel Torres has not given up. Speaking during the presentation of the club’s new kits, Torres revealed that he already had an agreement with the player

However, he clarified that everything now hinges on Real Madrid’s decision – whether they will keep Gonzalo in the squad or allow him to leave in search of regular playing time.

Getafe had hoped to offer Gonzalo the minutes he might struggle to find at Madrid, believing that he could instantly improve their attacking options.

But those close to the player believe there is no intention to make a move, at least for now. The belief is that Gonzalo wants to stay and fight for a more prominent role in the first team.

And with good reason. The 21-year-old’s numbers with the senior side are already impressive – five goals in just ten matches, including four in six games at the World Cup.

All signs suggest that Real Madrid are in no rush to let such a talent slip through their fingers, especially with the player himself determined to stay put.
