Alexander Zverev came back from a set down on Monday to send Toronto reigning champion Alexei Popyrin packing and reach the semi-finals of the Canadian Open.

The world number three dropped the first set but eventually defeated his Australian opponent 6-7 (8-10), 6-4, 6-3.

A spectator annoyed the German 28-year-old several times at 5-3 in the third set by shouting before his serves and was escorted out of the stadium by security to the applause of the crowd.

Zverev will next face Karen Khachanov after the 11th seed defeated Alex Michelsen 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
