Deion Sanders continues to load up his coaching staff with former NFL greats at Colorado. That includes Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk, who is set to coach the Buffaloes RBs this season.

It will be the first coaching role at any level for Faulk, and he was asked in a recent press conference what intrigued him about working with Sanders. He opened up on his longtime friendship with the coach and why he believes their values align with each other to make this a great fit.

“You guys know him in a different way than I know him,” Faulk said. “We’ve been friends for many years. We worked together in television. We always talk just about the game and probably more about kids coming up in the game. How do you affect and make sure they come into the game the right way? He’s one of those way makers. When you pay attention to kids that’s gonna leave this program and go to the next level, they’re gonna do it in a certain way and you’re gonna say, ‘Wow, they were coached by a guy who understands how to get it done.’ I identify with that.

“So coming here not just to win games on the field, but to win the game off the field, which is to make sure that these young men in life become what they want to become outside of football. They become the father that they want to be, the brother, the husband. Making sure that they do that, that’s the important part. That was attractive.”

Faulk is one of the most accomplished running backs in the history of the NFL. He won a Super Bowl in 2000 with the Los Angeles Rams, and also won the MVP award that same season after rushing for 1,359 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was also the league’s Offensive Player of the Year for three consecutive seasons from 1999-2001.

There’s few names with as much star power as Faulk and he’s sure to attract plenty of talented running backs to Boulder. He takes over a group with nowhere to go up up after ranking last in the FBS in rushing yards per game this past season.

No player returning on the Buffaloes’ roster surpassed the 200-yard mark for the entire season in 2024. Colorado also brought in a pair of transfers in DeKalon Taylor and Simeon Price.

It’s Marshall Faulk’s job to help turn that room into a weapon for the Buffaloes offense. Along with Byron Leftwich and Warren Sapp he makes up part of a star-studded coaching staff for Sanders full of former NFL talent.
