Pressure Mounts for Twins After Byron Buxton's Message on His Future

The Minnesota Twins are facing pressure after Byron Buxton addressed his MLB future

The Minnesota Twins completed nine trades ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline, massively overhauling the roster after another mediocre season.

The team had lost four consecutive series entering the deadline, prompting the front office to pivot and trade franchise stars Carlos Correa and Jhoan Duran, along with several other big-league contributors, in an effort to rebuild the farm system.

Notably, homegrown superstar center fielder Byron Buxton was not moved, but speculation grew over whether the 31-year-old would be willing to leave the only organization he’s ever known by waiving his no-trade clause. Buxton has spent the last eleven seasons of his career in Minnesota after making his major-league debut in 2015.

Injured Star Byron Buxton Breaks Silence on Trade Deadline

Buxton is currently sidelined on the 10-day injured list with ribcage inflammation, but he has flourished in 2025, posting a .282 batting average, .905 OPS, 23 home runs and 17 stolen bases—one of the few offensive bright spots for Minnesota this season.

With speculation mounting over how Buxton would respond to the Twins’ roster teardown and apparent surrender of the season, he addressed the situation directly: “At the end of the season, we'll talk a little bit more but I ain't going nowhere."

Buxton’s Commitment Creates Crossroads for Twins’ Future

Twins fans were relieved by Buxton’s comments and celebrated his loyalty on X.

One fan wrote, "We do not deserve Byron Buxton man, this guy is beyond special on all levels."

"I LOVE YOU BUXTON!!!" added another.

"Byron Buxton you are the best," said one more.

A fan said, "I honestly feel bad that Buxton isn't somewhere that he can win. I really hope he has a ring by the end of his career, if it's with the Twins or not."

With Buxton determined to stick it out in Minnesota and fan support behind him, pressure is mounting on the front office.

Had Buxton requested a trade, the team could fully embrace a rebuild. But with three years remaining on his contract through 2028, the Twins must now decide whether to pause their rebuilding plans and build around their franchise star.

In 857 career games, Buxton has collected 731 hits, 156 home runs, 412 RBIs and 110 stolen bases, along with two All-Star selections and a Gold Glove Award.
