Commanders' Terry McLaurin replacement looks to be a former Cowboys star WR back from retirement originally appeared on The Sporting News
Terry McLaurin may very well get a contract signed with the Washington Commanders.
But his holdout could extend into the regular season, or his trade request could eventually be granted.
There's a very real chance that he's not the WR1 for the Commanders in Week 1.
If that happens, the Commanders have given an initial indication of who McLaurin's replacement will be, and it's a familiar name for NFC East fans.
Washington released its first unofficial depth chart of training camp, and listed behind McLaurin at his WR position: Michael Gallup.

Gallup spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Cowboys.
In 2024's offseason, he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, but then he retired before the season started.
Gallup had decided by March to make a comeback, though. The Commanders signed him on March 20, a week after this year's free agency opened.
And if McLaurin misses time, Gallup could become important immediately.

In his most recent season, 2023 with the Cowboys, he had 34 catches for 418 yards and two touchdowns.
His best season in Dallas was 2019, with 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six TDs.
Overall, Gallup played 86 games for the Cowboys, catching 266 passes for 3,744 yards and 21 scores.
Still just 29 years old, the former third-round pick out of Colorado State likely still has the speed that made him a great weapon in Dallas.
Jayden Daniels definitely has the capability to find Gallup down the field on some deep attempts.
The Commanders would clearly like to get McLaurin back out there if possible, but in the meantime, it'll be Gallup preparing to be an able fill-in.
