Liverpool will no doubt try again to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United before the end of the current transfer window.

The Reds were knocked back when they presented their first formal bid for the Swedish striker - believed to be in the region of £120m.

Newcastle have got a striker shortage - and do not wish to let Isak go despite his pleas to make the move to Anfield.

Liverpool did not come close to reaching the Magpies reported asking price - around £150m - but the deal may well be reignited if the North East side manage to sign a replacement.

Liverpool still thinking about Rodrygo

Benjamin Sesko is the latest name in the frame - with Newcastle meeting the RB Leipzig asking price for their Slovenian striker.

And if Liverpool successfully manage to add Isak, 25, to their squad then it promises to have profound implications for the future of one Real Madrid star.

Rodrygo, 24, is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu under new manager Xabi Alonso. He will be allowed to leave if any potential suitors come up with the asking price - not to mention the wages.

Madrid want around €100m for the Brazil international, who can play all across the frontline. It’s been claimed in the Spanish media that Rodrygo prefers a move to Liverpool - but if the deal concerning Isak goes ahead then he will have to look elsewhere.

Liverpool can't sign Isak AND Rodrygo

Defensa Central claims Liverpool will ABANDON their pursuit of Rodrygo if Isak is signed.

“If Alexander Isak's signing for Liverpool goes through, the Reds will give up on signing the São Paulo native, who would be left without his preferred destination, and would therefore be closer to saying goodbye to Anfield Road,” the report reads.

That stance strongly suggests that Liverpool would be comfortable moving into the season with Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha as their left-wing options now that Luis Diaz has been sold to Bayern Munich.

Liverpool's left-wing alternatives

New signings - such as Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike - can also play wide left.

Liverpool’s transfer business could finally be coming to a close once Isak is onboarded. It’s been a landmark summer of spending thus far - totalling around £260m before the estimated £135m deal for Isak is counted.

The Reds may still require a centre-back but that could well be funded through departures of other players - including Tyler Morton and Harvey Elliott.
