Zverev through to Toronto quarters after Cerundolo retires injured

Alexander Zverev made it through to the last eight of the Toronto Masters after Francisco Cerundolo retired due to injury at 6-4, 1-0 on Saturday. The world number three had not won any of his three previous matches against Cerundolo, who is currently ranked 24th.

Alexander Zverev made it through to the last eight of the Toronto Masters after Francisco Cerundolo retired due to injury at 6-4, 1-0 on Saturday.

The world number three had not won any of his three previous matches against Cerundolo, who is currently ranked 24th.

Zverev will next face Alexei Popyrin after the Australian came back from a set down to upset world number five Holger Rune 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Karen Khachanov also made it to the last 16 after defeating eighth seed Casper Ruud 6-4, 7-5.

Meanwhile, the dream run of US teen Learner Tien came to an end at the hands of compatriot Alex Michelsen, who won 6-3, 6-3 to earn his first Masters 1000 quarter-final.
