Cincinnati Reds, Braves suspended in first at Speedway Classic, to resume Sunday 1 p.m.

The Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves started in the rain after a 2:17 rain delay, then endured harder rain before the Speedway Classic was suspended.

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- If MLB's foray into NASCAR country for the Speedway Classic gets remembered for anything, it won't be for anything resembling speed. Or anything classic.

MLB's annual one-off regular-season event -- this one between the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves at Bristol Motor Speedway -- was suspended after just four outs Saturday night

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Chase Burns throws a pitch to Atlanta Braves batter Matt Olson in the MLB Speedway Classic held at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn., on August 2, 2025.

The game is to be resumed Sunday at 1 p.m. with two Reds runners on base and one out in the bottom of the first.

The game started after a 2 hour, 17-minute delay while it was still raining.

Soon after the first pitch, the rain picked up again.

Chase Burns struck out two in a 1-2-3 top of the first, and Austin Hays singled home a run with one out in the bottom half before the grounds crew, and eventually the tarp, returned to the field.

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Chase Burns (26) pitches during a Major League Baseball game between the Atlanta Brave and Cincinnati Reds at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 2, 2025.

Once the second delay lasted about 10 minutes, Burns appeared to be done for the night anyway, giving his catcher a hug and his shoulder already in what looked like a typical postgame wrap.

The Braves scratched scheduled starter Spencer Strider earlier in the night because of the conditions and forecast, electing to start reliever instead.

It makes Strider available for the restart Sunday with Burns likely unavailable.
