Miami Dolphins lose Austin Jackson, try out five offensive linemen

Miami Dolphins right tackle Austin Jackson suffers an injury as the team brings in five linemen for tryouts.

On a day the Miami Dolphins reportedly lost right tackle Austin Jackson for weeks with a lower-body injury, they brought in five offensive linemen for tryouts.

NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported that the Dolphins hope to have Jackson for the season-opener Sept. 7 in Indianapolis.

The Dolphins tried out veteran tackles Chris Hubbard, Germain Ifedi and David Sharpe, along with Yodny Cajuste and Zack Bailey.

While the Dolphins appear set with a starting offensive line (when healthy), they have not been able to field the ideal five for a single rep in training camp. Making matters more difficult for line coach Butch Barry is that the backups have yet to distinguish themselves.

Hubbard, 34, has appeared in 102 games with four teams, including a five-year stint in Cleveland and four years in Pittsburgh. He has started 61 games.

Ifedi, 31, was Seattle’s first-round pick in 2016. He has appeared in 117 games, starting 90, with the majority of that time coming with the Seahawks.

Sharpe, 29, is an ex-Gator from Jacksonville who was the Raiders’ fourth-round pick in 2017. He’s a veteran of 45 games but only six starts.

Cajuste, 29, is a Miami native from Miramar High. He was New England’s third-round pick in 2019 and played 17 games, starting five.

Bailey, 29, has appeared in one game each for the Chargers and Jets.
