Florida's Chris Doering is a bit worried about DJ Lagway's injury.
Florida Legend Delivers Blunt Verdict After DJ Lagway’s Fall Camp Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Florida Gators starting quarterback DJ Lagway has been battling an injury to start fall camp.
Lagway suffered a calf injury during a run with his teammates last week, but thankfully, Gators head coach Billy Napier said that Lagway is only day-to-day. The 2025 college football season is still a month away from starting, so if everything goes according to plan, Lagway should be healthy for Florida's season-opener against Long Island.
However, ESPN/SEC Network's Chris Doering is still a bit worried about the injury since Lagway is going to be playing "catch-up."
"I am seriously concerned about the lack of time he's had with his new weapons," Doering said on SiriusXM's "SEC This Morning." "I talked about it earlier. J. Michael Sturdivant, the wide receiver from UCLA, has looked amazing from everybody that I've talked to, but how many times have those guys gotten reps together? Dallas Wilson was tremendous in the spring. How many times has he gotten to throw with DJ Lagway?"
"I do think there are a lot of things, whether he's ready to go by week one or not, that you're playing catch-up on, and that's not necessarily a good thing, particularly because we're ready to talk about DJ Lagway as a Heisman Trophy candidate, but he only started seven games last year. It's not like he's this third-year veteran."
Lagway appeared in 12 games last year with seven starts, finishing with 1,915 yards through the air, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
If he can stay healthy, the Gators will have a chance of being better this year after going 8-5 last year.
