Ideally, Ruben Amorim would love for Manchester United to bring in a new goalkeeper this window to challenge Andre Onana.
The Cameroonian was culpable for major errors last season, while backup keeper Altay Bayindir did little better.
The Red Devils have been linked with moves for Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, both their asking prices and the number of teams in the fray have meant the new co-owners have stayed away from submitting a concrete proposal.
Amorim wants a new goalie
In all likelihood, with Onana currently injured and his exit off the table, INEOS will favour a low-cost operation.
Which explains United’s interest in Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp. Another keeper on the 20-time English league champions’ radar is Mads Hermansen of Leicester City.
However, The Sun have now reported that West Ham have edged ahead in the race and have agreed personal terms with the Danish shot-stopper.
The only thing left to be agreed is the fee, with the 25-year-old open to moving to the Hammers.
“MANCHESTER UNITED are set to be pipped to the signature of Mads Hermansen by West Ham. Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is eyeing the Leicester City keeper as a potential long-term replacement for calamitous Cameroonian Andre Onana.
Mads Hermansen off the table
“United, along with Aston Villa, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Wolves, have been impressed by the Dane’s displays since he dethroned Danny Ward as the Foxes’ first-choice stopper two seasons ago.
“But SunSport understands West Ham have stolen a march on their Prem rivals by agreeing personal terms with the 25-year-old keeper.
“All that remains for Hermansen to swap the King Power for the London Stadium is for Leicester and West Ham to reach a suitable financial agreement. Hermansen, who was a shining light in a dull 2024/25 season for the Foxes, is understood to be keen on the move.”
Fans will not be too disappointed, and will be hoping that INEOS can pull off a stunner by winning the race for Donnarumma.
Mads Hermansen is good but it is unlikely he can usurp Onana in the pecking order. United need someone better.
