SC Freiburg find themselves very concerned about right back Philipp Treu after the 24-year-old suffered a serious shoulder injury in a pre-season friendly. Freiburg’s massive summer signing injured himself in the first of two 70-minute test fixtures against Freiburg’s Bundesliga competitors Hamburger SV. Treu hurt his shoulder in a tussle with fellow German summer transfer Jordan Torunarigha.
Kicker reports that the injury does indeed appear severe. Treu is scheduled for further examinations. A dislocated shoulder could see the Heidelberg-native sidelined for four-to-six weeks. The Breisgauer maintained big plans for Treu after bringing him back to the club from FC St. Pauli this summer. The news nevertheless doesn’t need to constitute a massive blow for the Sport Club.
Freiburg recently completed the sale of right back Kiliann Sildillia to PSV Eindhoven; a move very much influenced by Treu’s arrival. SCF head coach Julian Schuster nevertheless still retains the services of German right back Lukas Kübler. The 32-year-old German veteran fullback collected two braces and scored a total of five goals in his 28 league appearances last year.
