Newcastle United have completed the signing of Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on a season-long loan with an option to buy.Â
The deal includes a sizeable fee, and serves as an alternative to long-term target James Trafford, who turned down the club in favour of a return to Manchester City.Â
Eddie Howe previously worked with the 27-year-old while at Bournemouth, and he becomes the club's second signing of a difficult summer after Anthony Elanga.
As well as Trafford, the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Liam Delap and Bryan Mbeumo have all gone elsewhere despite interest from the Magpies, while star man Alexander Isak has asked to leave the club.Â
Ramsdale only joined Southampton in a £25m deal from Arsenal last summer, but now departs following relegation, and will look to challenge Nick Pope for the first-choice position at St. James' Park.Â
