Quinn makes a good point.
Terry McLaurin wants a new contract, and he's not getting one at the moment.
Because of that, the Washington Commanders' star wide receiver requested a trade earlier this week.
Sound familiar? It's not all that different from what Myles Garrett went through in Cleveland earlier in the offseason, and it's very similar to what Cincinnati's Trey Hendrickson and Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons are dealing with right now.
Welcome to the modern NFL.
Commanders coach Dan Quinn isn't surprised, and he framed his feelings through the lens of today's player.
“Players today are more aware of contracts than they used to be,” Quinn told ESPN's Jonah Keim. “They recognize that’s the business part. For the team, we’re just rocking. For Terry, the trade request, that’s part of normal business that’s happening around the NFL. We understand it. This group is tight and they’re focused on what they have to do.”

McLaurin of course noticed that DK Metcalf signed a four-year, $132 million extension with the Steelers earlier in the offseason.
That pair was in the same draft class, although Metcalf is two years younger.
McLaurin has also been a stalwart for the Commanders amid a rut of bad quarterbacks before Jayden Daniels finally showed up as the savior in 2024.

More often than not, these star trade requests amid contract struggles seem to be resolved. Garrett, for example, got his deal.
It's not clear what path Hendrickson or Parsons will go down, and how McLaurin will wind up fitting into the big picture.
But it doesn't surprise Quinn, and it shouldn't surprise anyone. In a league where a career can end at a moment's notice, and where contract information is more readily available than ever, players want to get paid. You can't blame them.
