Oriol Romeu is the only medically cleared FC Barcelona player who did not travel with the squad on their pre-season tour of Asia.
The decision to leave him behind was made to speed up his departure, as he is not part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the upcoming season.
Talks underway with Girona
Now, according to SPORT, Romeu is negotiating a return to Girona, with Barcelona currently working on terminating his contract to facilitate the move back to Montilivi.
Romeu has been training alone at the Ciutat Esportiva, maintaining a high level of professionalism despite the personal difficulty of being isolated from his teammates.
Meanwhile, negotiations between the parties have progressed, and the midfielder is close to rejoining Girona, where he spent the last season on loan.

Barcelona will need to make some financial effort to finalise the transfer, including assuming at least half of his current salary, before terminating his contract that is valid for one more season.
In addition to Girona, Real Oviedo had also expressed interest in the player. However, Romeu prefers to remain close to home and return to a club where he developed significantly under manager Michel.
Once his contract with Barcelona is terminated, Romeu will be free to sign with his former club, where he is highly valued both on and off the pitch.
The midfielder was a key part of Michel’s squad before joining Barça in 2023 for a fee of around €3 million.
But after a difficult season and Xavi’s sacking, he was loaned back to Girona last season. Now, he appears set to make a permanent move back to Estadi Montilivi.
