The deep dive: The latest release in Callaway’s Opus wedge family is a head-turner—not just because of how it performs, but because of how it looks. The Opus Platinum Craftsman Collection wedges are a limited-edition version of the Opus Platinum that was released last season, featuring a hammered-back design and a bold brushed copper PVD finish that makes them stand out in the bag.

While the design nods to classic metalwork and handcrafted club making, this wedge is anything but old-fashioned under the hood. It’s made using metal injection molding (MiM), a technique that allows Callaway to dial in shaping and performance with extreme precision. The result is a dense, solid feel through impact.

Along with the hammered texturing in the back, you can see where Callaway designers added tungsten to the topline in the Opus Platinum Craftsman Collection wedges.

That modern engineering includes a bonded 17-gram tungsten positioned high in the topline — something you can’t see in the address position, but you can feel when the ball comes off lower with more spin. It’s a move designed to help better players flight their wedges down and manage trajectory more effectively, especially on partial shots or in the wind.

Like the standard Opus Platinum, the Craftsman Collection wedges have been created with Spin Gen Face technology. It layers in three spin-enhancing elements: tighter-packed grooves for more groove edges on the ball, offset groove-in-groove milling to keep spin high when opening the face, and an aggressive blast treatment to increase friction on shorter shots. Together, they give players Tour-caliber spin control whether they’re pitching, chipping or taking full swings.
