Manchester City are planning to send Claudio Echeverri on loan to Spanish club Girona for the upcoming season, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

City signed the talented midfielder from River Plate in January during the 2023/24 winter transfer window in a deal worth €23.5 million.

The 19-year-old made his debut for Pep Guardiola’s side in the FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace in May.

He subsequently played in the FIFA Club World Cup, where he scored in a 6–0 victory against Al-Ain.

Echeverri is recovering from an ankle injury he picked up during that tournament, but City believe a full season elsewhere will help his development.

Girona offer the ideal environment

Girona ended last season in 16th place in La Liga and will be looking to improve this season.

Adding a player of Echeverri’s quality would improve their squad depth and attacking options.

The Spanish club are part of the City Football Group and often work with Man City to give young players top-level experience.

Echeverri is an attacking midfielder with quick feet, sharp dribbling and excellent vision.

He is right-footed, very good at creating chances, and often operates in the half-spaces between midfield and attack.

The midfielder also has a strong eye for goal, finishing well both inside and outside the box.

His playing style has drawn comparisons with Lionel Messi, thanks to his low centre of gravity and ability to beat defenders with ease.

Man City view the teenage star as one for the future, and believe this loan spell could be vital for his progress.

Italian club AS Roma have also shown interest in Echeverri, highlighting the growing recognition of his talent across Europe.
