Sunderland had shown interest in Deivid Washington before turning their attention to Marc Guiu according to reports.

Guiu completed a loan move to Sunderland on Thursday, and had also attracted interest from clubs in the Championship.

The 19-year-old joined Chelsea last summer from Barcelona for £5m, but made just three Premier League appearances, although he scored six goals in seven Conference League games, including a hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers.

Sunderland showed interest in Washington before Guiu

A move to Sunderland on paper is great for Guiu, and it will give him a chance to show what he can do at this level on a regular basis.

However, it could have been another Chelsea striker making the move to the North East, and Mail Sport have reported Sunderland had shown interest in Washington.

Washington has played just 25 minutes for Chelsea since signing in 2023.

Washington is somewhat of a forgotten man at Chelsea, and the Blues signed him from Santos for £17.2m in the summer of 2023.

The 20-year-old has made just three appearances for the Blues, and spent last season back on loan at Santos, where he’s managed to score just once in 15 appearances.

Quite what Chelsea’s plan for the youngster is remains to be seen, but they will likely want a permanent sale, although it’s hard to see the Blues getting back close to what they paid given how his career has gone so far.

Tyrique George likely to go on loan

Guiu won’t be the last player to go on loan this summer, and it’s been reported it’s likely Tyrique George could go on loan.

George was promoted to the first team squad last season, and scored a crucial goal away at Fulham, his first for the club, but with the new signings Chelsea have made in attack his chances of regular minutes appear slim.

The teenager needs to be playing regularly in order to develop and a loan move would be great, with RB Leipzig said to be showing interest.
