EUGENE, Ore. (WCIA) – Illinois track and field assistant coach Deanna Price is still competing plenty – and doing so effectively.
The Illini staffer won the women’s hammer throw at the at the United States Outdoor National Championships at Hayward Field on Thursday.
She notched a mark of of 78.53 meters to advance to the World Championships. The World Championships are scheduled to take place in Tokyo on Sept. 13-21.
It’s the third time Price has qualified to represent the United States on the global stage. She won gold at the World Athletics Championships in Qatar in 2019, and earned bronze in Hungary in 2023.
Price joined the Illinois staff in 2022 as a volunteer assistant and was promoted to assistant coach in 2023.
