How Astros starting lineup looks after trade deadline moves

After acquiring one of their major needs and reuniting with an old friend, here is how the Space City team looks for the final two months of the regular season.

Well, that just happened.

The trade deadline is now in effect, and no more moves can be made via trade for the remainder of the 2025 season.

And though the Houston Astros didn't quite check off all of their boxes at this year's deadline, they certainly made moves to improve their roster and defend their crown in the AL West.

Starting off the festivities, the team made a deal to acquire Ramon Urias from the Baltimore Orioles, in light of the news that third baseman Isaac Parades might be sidelined for longer than originally intended with his recent hamstring injury.

And after trading for Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez, the Astros pulled off one of their more surprising moves of the deadline, bringing back infielder Carlos Correa and sending lefty pitcher Matt Mikulski to Minnesota, more reinforcements for the recent injury bug in the form of a very familiar face.

Correa, a two-time All-Star and World Series champion in his original stint in Houston from 2015 to 2021, will likely fill the void at third base for the Astros, as Jeremy Pena is still set as the everyday shortstop once he himself returns from injury.

And as Yordan Alvarez begins to trend toward his return to the team after being sidelined since May, the meat of the Astros lineup is beginning to return, even despite Parades' injury.

Once everyone is healthy again, the Astros starting lineup, defensively at least, should see Yainer Diaz behind the dish catching, Christian Walker at first, Jose Altuve at second, Correa at third, and Pena at short, with Brice Matthews also a notable infield option if Altuve is given a rest.

Outfield wise, Sanchez, Jake Meyers, and Cam Smith should occupy the grass on a regular basis, with Taylor Trammell also seeing his reps.

And at designated hitter, fans should find the slugging Cuban Alvarez back in his rightful spot once he returns, but until then, it will likely be filled by Victor Caratini or even Mauricio Dubon.
