The Texas Longhorns will have to reach their third consecutive College Football Playoff with a new man under center.

That man is none other than Arch Manning, who is finally getting his shot now that Quinn Ewers has left for the NFL. Manning saw the field in 10 games last season, with two starts after Ewers suffered an oblique injury in Week 2 that forced an early exit versus UTSA.

On a recent episode of "The Joel Klatt Show," Joel Klatt compared Manning to former Clemson Tigers star Trevor Lawrence, who now plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL.

"In his two starts, he reminded me a lot of Trevor Lawrence when Trevor Lawrence was at Clemson," Klatt said. "An athletic guy that didn't beat you with his athleticism but could beat you with his arm. Smart, competitive, great pedigree, obviously. 13 total touchdowns, two interceptions. Like, the guy can play."

Last season, Manning threw for 939 passing yards, 13 total touchdowns and two interceptions. In his two starts against UL Monroe and the Mississippi State Bulldogs, he accounted for a combined 583 passing yards, five total touchdowns and two interceptions.

Another NFL quarterback had some praise for Manning recently, as former Florida State Seminoles and Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel believed being in the same system for the last two seasons would greatly benefit the Texas star.

It is also apparent that Manning is having a positive impact on future Texas players. Five-star quarterback Dia Bell credited the Longhorns' gunslinger's mental toughness.

Manning has the chance to get some revenge for his teammates after how the 2024 season ended. The Ohio State Buckeyes sent Texas home after a 28-14 loss in the CFP semifinal.

Texas opens the 2025 season with Ohio State on August 30, with a Noon ET kickoff on Fox.
