Marseille have officially announced the signing of experienced Gabon international Pierre‑Emerick Aubameyang on a two‑year contract, with an option to extend beyond 2027.
Aubameyang, 36, returns to the Stade Vélodrome following a season in Saudi Arabia with Al‑Qadsiah, where he scored 21 goals in 36 appearances after mutually terminating his contract earlier this month.Â
The move sees him rejoin Marseille after a stellar spell in the 2023/24 season, during which he netted 30 goals and registered 11 assists in just 51 games across all competitions.
This transfer underlines a deliberate strategy by Marseille to reinforce their frontline ahead of a crucial 2025/26 campaign, which includes Champions League football. The club have also secured Brazilian winger Igor Paixão in recent days, as part of an ambitious recruitment drive.
President Pablo Longoria, sporting director Mehdi Benatia and manager Roberto De Zerbi were all credited with securing the striker’s return, with Aubameyang opting for the French giants over offers from other Saudi clubs.
His European pedigree, including stints at Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea, will bolster Marseille’s attacking options and leadership in the dressing room.
