VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller suffered a partial tear of the lateral ligament in his left ankle, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on Thursday.
Stiller suffered the injury during Wednesday's training session. He won't participate in training in the coming days, but will remain with the team at the pre-season camp, Stuttgart said.
"Recovery measures and Stiller’s subsequent return to rehabilitative training will depend on his symptoms and discomfort levels," the club said.
Stuttgart didn't set a timeline for his return, but said he's unlikely to be available for the friendlies against Toulouse (August 2) and Bologna (August 9).
Last season, Stiller rushed back from an ankle injury to play in the German Cup final won by his club. However, he had to pull out of the Germany squad for the Nations League Final Four in June as the ankle was not healed enough.
Cup champions Stuttgart kick-off the new season against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
