The New York Jets announced on Monday that they placed Evans on the NFL's reserve/retired list. He was trying to make the Jets' 53-man roster for the 2025 NFL season before retiring from the league.
Evans spent the 2024 season on the Jets' practice squad. He was with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2023 season after they selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Evans played in 10 games, finishing with nine carries for 19 yards and no touchdowns.
Evans spent his collegiate career with the TCU Horned Frogs and the Ole Miss Rebels before joining the NFL. He was with the Horned Frogs in 2020 and 2021 before ending his collegiate career with the Rebels in 2022. His best individual season came as a member of Ole Miss when he finished with 144 carries for 936 yards and nine touchdowns.
Before committing to the Horned Frogs, Evans was a five-star recruit in the 2020 recruiting class and the top recruit out of Texas, per 247Sports composite rankings. He was the second-best running back recruit in the class and the No. 16 overall recruit.
The Jets will feature Breece Hall as their starting running back again this season and are slated to have Braelon Allen be his backup. The Jets finished the 2024 season with a 5-12 record.
