Oregon’s offense has been powered by great quarterbacks under Dan Lanning — and it looks like another is ready to emerge. One analyst has already placed him on the early Heisman watch list.
Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are coming off a strong 2024 season, but this year’s team looks a little different. With several key players off to the NFL, there are some big shoes to fill — none bigger than the one left by quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
That’s where Dante Moore comes in.
The former five-star recruit began his college career at UCLA before transferring to Oregon and sitting behind Gabriel last season. Now, he’s stepping into the spotlight — and gaining national attention as a potential Heisman Trophy contender.
According to On3Sports college football analyst J.D. Pickell, Moore is among his early finalists for the award.
Pickell’s list features Ohio State freshman Jeremiah Smith as the projected winner, with LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, and Moore rounding out the top candidates. It’s a bold projection, especially considering Moore’s limited body of work.
During his freshman season at UCLA, he threw for 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions and completed just 53% of his passes. But the narrative has shifted after a full year in Eugene — a place where quarterbacks tend to shine.

Both Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel saw their games take major leaps under Lanning. Moore now has a chance to be the next in line. He’s still developing, sure, but his arm talent and poise have never been in question. If he can put it all together, Oregon’s offense may not skip a beat.
Expectations are high. And if history is any indication, the Ducks may have found their next star behind center.
