The Florida Gators' defensive backfield was a strong suit for head coach Billy Napier's team in 2024 and promises to be the same this season. One cornerback who will likely be a big part of this impressive position group is Dijon Johnson.

It has been a rollercoaster of a summer for Johnson. After completing a successful sophomore season last year, he was arrested after a traffic stop on May 2 in Tampa, Florida, and faced four charges at the time of his arrest.

On Monday, it was revealed that all charges will be dropped against Johnson by the Florida State Attorney's Office, according to On3's Keith Niebuhr.

Johnson faced two felony and two misdemeanor charges after the traffic stop in May. The two felony charges were second-degree felony for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and third-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance, per Niebuhr.

"We have worked closely with prosecutors on this for the past few months and are pleased with their diligence and professionalism," Johnson’s attorney Tim Taylor said. "Dijon and his family are happy to have this matter behind them. Dijon is focused on his academic and football commitments and is excited for the start of the football season.”

Johnson has appeared in all 25 games through his first two seasons at Florida. Last year, he stepped into a bigger role on the Gators' defense, making five starts while totaling 27 tackles, two tackles-for-loss and a pair of pass breakups.

Now, as his legal troubles are in the past, Johnson can focus on Florida's upcoming 2025 season, in which Gators fans hope will be a success.
