The Green Bay Packers have some things to answer on the defensive end. A potential solution could be adding former top 5 draft pick.
The Green Bay Packers are shaping up to have an exciting season on the offensive side of the ball—one that should be a lot of fun to watch. But the real questions that need answering lie on the defensive side. One of those questions, however, may already be settled: Isaiah Simmons appears to have done enough to secure a roster spot.
“But the Packers are giving Simmons a chance to focus on just one position at linebacker, and there's a chance he could provide something meaningful in a specific subpackage role. Also, it's clear he's the preferred backup option at linebacker, so if nothing else, Simmons looks like a good bet to make the 53 at this point in camp,” Packers Wire's Zach Kruse wrote.
The defensive line is where the uncertainty remains. Green Bay was solid against the run last season but struggled to consistently pressure the quarterback.
“Former New England defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington has replaced Jason Rebrovich as the leader of Green Bay's defensive front. His task will be to build on a strong 2024 season against the run while developing a more consistent pass rush,” Packers.com’s Wes Hodkiewicz wrote.
The Packers are aiming to force 43 turnovers this season—a lofty goal that could hinge on improving their pass rush. ESPN’s Seth Walder recently pitched a trade idea that could help: acquiring young Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.
“The Packers are natural trade partners here. This is a team in contention now, but with a major need at edge,” Walder wrote. “Who, exactly, Green Bay would be getting remains a question. But given his draft pedigree and young age (24), he absolutely still offers star-level upside. Plus, he's been on a bad team the past two years.”

Thibodeaux would provide immediate help in pressuring the quarterback and could be key in helping Green Bay reach its ambitious turnover target. If this trade were to materialize, it could be a gamechanger for the Cheeseheads.
