Tottenham Hotspur have indicated their willingness to meet Bournemouth’s steep asking price for Illia Zabarnyi, although the player is only keen to join Paris Saint-Germain at the moment, according to RMC Sport.
Zabarnyi has rapidly established himself as one of the Premier League’s best defenders and is set for a big move away from the Vitality Stadium this summer, like last season’s centre-back partner, Dean Huijsen.
Spurs have been huge fans of Zabarnyi since his arrival in English football and view him as an ideal long-term partner for Micky van de Ven and a possible successor for Cristian Romero, whose future remains uncertain amid links with Atletico Madrid.
While the Lilywhites are willing to shatter their transfer record to bring Zabarnyi to North London, the Ukrainian has reportedly not actively engaged in talks with Spurs so far, showing a clear preference for PSG.
PSG have been working on a deal to sign Zabarnyi since early June and have had multiple offers rejected as Bournemouth hold out for €70 million.
Zabarnyi is believed to have agreed personal terms with the European champions and is now waiting for Les Parisiens to reach an agreement with his current employers as the clubs remain in talks.
The 22-year-old was a second-half substitute in Bournemouth’s 3-0 friendly victory over Everton on Saturday as the speculations over his future continue.
Should Zabarnyi end up getting his preferred move to the French capital, he could make his official debut in next month’s UEFA Super Cup final between PSG and Tottenham Hotspur.
