The Los Angeles Chargers have added another wide receiver to add depth this preseason.
The Los Angeles Chargers are keeping their eyes on the wide receiver position, adding depth to a group that could be lacking options, but staying away from the highly anticipated move of bringing Keenan Allen back to the team.
The Chargers instead made a minor move, signing free agent JaQuae Jackson to the roster. Jackson, 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, has yet to play in the NFL aside from preseason action. Undrafted out of Rutgers last year, he initially signed with the Atlanta Falcons but was quickly released. He was picked up by the New England Patriots and looked like he could be a future prospect for the team after catching this touchdown pass from Joe Milton in the preseason.
But a season-ending injury suffered late in the preseason shut him down for the season, and this past April, the Patriots released him. The Chargers will be his third team in the league and he'll have to be a quick study, joining a team that has been in training camp for two weeks. We'll see if he gets any action in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions.

To make room for Jackson on the 90-man roster, the Chargers waived offensive lineman Elijah Ellis.
Ellis was signed in mid-June and took the roster spot of offensive lineman Tyler McClellan. But with a deep group in front of him, the Chargers have already decided that he's not going to be able to compete for a roster spot, so he'll have to hope another team gives him a shot before preseason action gets underway.
