Miami Dolphins Fins Up/Fins Down: Linebackers, run game excel on Day 6 of training camp

Your daily roundup of who stood out at Miami Dolphins training camp.

MIAMI GARDENS – The Miami Dolphins had their sixth training camp practice of the 2025 season on Tuesday, July 29 at Baptist Health Training Complex.

The Dolphins put on the pads for the first time in camp, making the heat and humidity even worse for the players. But, then again, that is what training camp is all about.

LB Willie Gay continues to make noise on defense and there were some big plays on offense, too.

Miami Dolphins training camp Day 6 stock up/stock down

Stock Up

Linebackers - Gay absolutely stonewalled Ollie Gordon on a rushing attempt and then sacked Zach Wilson. He was active in all facets of the game and has been all camp. He's pushing Tyrel Dodson for that starting spot alongside Jordyn Brooks. But he was not the only linebacker/edge rusher excelling. Chop Robinson and Jaelan Phillips both sacked Tua Tagovailoa and Robinson later blew past OT Ryan Hayes in a blocking drill.

Running game - De'Von Achane continues to show why he's the No. 1 RB with a nice run at the start of the 11-on-11 drill. He's still a dual threat, having used his speed to shed Bradley Chubb for a long connection with Tua Tagovailoa. The interior offensive line opened big holes for the backs up the middle, including Alexander Mattison, who is showing he's not just a power back. The news about the line is encouraging considering the results are coming without C Aaron Brewer and G James Daniels.

Quarterback - Rookie Quinn Ewers continues to make inroads.

Stock Down

The secondary - Gave up numerous pass plays and continues to be a work in progress, which got tougher with injuries to Kader Kohou, Storm Duck and Ashtyn Davis.

Receiver - Nick Westbrook-Ikhine caught eight touchdown passes for Tennessee last year. He's being counted on as both WR3 and a red-zone threat. The Dolphins are just diving into red-zone work, so it's too early to panic, but it would be good to see Westbrook-Ikhine making his presence known more often.
