Right fielder Nick Castellanos is in his thirteenth major-league season and fourth with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 33-year-old veteran made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2012, and he has since emerged as a reliable middle-of-the-order bat capable of producing significant power and run production.
Under contract with Philadelphia, Castellanos is in the fourth year of a five-year, $100 million deal he signed prior to the 2022 season after a brief stint with the Cincinnati Reds.
Over his 13-year career, he has earned two All-Star selections and won a Silver Slugger award. Across 1,643 regular-season games, Castellanos has a .273 batting average, a .790 OPS, 246 home runs and 904 RBIs.
In Friday’s series opener against the New York Yankees, Castellanos sustained a left knee injury while running toward the right-field wall to haul in the final out.
He missed Saturday’s game as result but was slotted back into the lineup on Sunday, batting cleanup and playing right field.
Manager Rob Thomson later provided an update, revealing that Castellanos is participating in pre-game running drills as a final test before resuming game action.
Some lineup notes from Thomson’s availability:

- Turner is at DH for half day off with how much he’s been running lately
- Castellanos is running pre-game, which is his final test before playing
- Sosa is alright
Through 102 games this season, Castellanos has remained a steady contributor in the everyday lineup, hitting .270 with a .745 OPS, 13 homers and 56 RBIs.
The Phillies will look to sweep the Yankees in Sunday’s finale and secure their third straight victory. The first-place New York Mets head into the day riding a six-game win streak with a half-game lead over Philadelphia in the NL East.
