As the new Missouri high school football season approaches, excitement is building among teams, coaches, and fans alike. Every year, competition in the Show Me State heats up as talented squads from across the state vie for dominance on the gridiron. From traditional powers to upstart competitors, these are the top 25 Missouri high school football teams entering the 2025 season, according to Massey.
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
1. Lee’s Summit North Broncos
The Broncos’ promising season started with 11 consecutive victories. However, their campaign ended with a heartbreaking one-point loss against Nixa in the Missouri high school football Class 6 state quarterfinals. This result marks the second consecutive year they’ve won all games before suffering a season-ending defeat.
Lee’s Summit North hopes to get past the quarterfinals this year. They’ll be off to a good start after defeating Raymore-Peculiar in their season opener on August 29. The Broncos’ key players include running back Bryce Thompson, wide receiver Justyn Lindsay, tight end Brady Sibbing, linebacker Caleb Green, and cornerback Josiah Robinson.
2. Christian Brothers College Cadets
The Cadets won nine straight games after splitting their first two. However, their season ended via a gut-wrenching two-point loss to Kirkwood in the third round of the Class 6 state tournament. Despite that loss, Christian Brothers completed four consecutive double-digit-win seasons via a 10-2 record.
Missouri’s second-best team will start their 2025-26 season against Illinois’ Sacred Heart-Griffin on August 29. Three-star safety Nick McClellan will be one of their bright spots on defense. On the other side of the ball, the Cadets have leaders like wide receiver Corde Gage, tight end Jake Plummer, and offensive tackle Gavin Dauby.
3. Liberty North Eagles
Missouri high school football’s third-best team finished their 2024 season with a 6-4 record after losing to Liberty in the Class 6 second round. Running back Jaylen Mack and Liberty North will start their 2025 season against Blue Springs South on August 29.
4. Nixa Eagles
The Eagles lost only one game during the 2024-25 season. However, that defeat came against De Smet in the Class 6 state championship game. Despite that loss, their 13-1 finish is an improvement from their previous two seasons (11-1 in 2023 and 10-2 in 2022).
With Jackson Cantwell, the nation’s third-best prospect from the Class of 2026, leading the charge, Nixa will start the 2025-26 season against Republic on August 29. In addition to Cantwell, the Eagles will also lean on quarterback Adam McKnight.
5. De Smet Spartans
The Spartans defeated Nixa for the Missouri high school football Class 6A state championship and finished with a 13-2 record. Defending that title will be their goal in the 2025-26 Missouri high school football season, and that journey starts against Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School on September 5.
Running back Jayden McCaster, tight end Ridge James, cornerbacks Trevon Collard and Amari Williams, and four-star defensive lineman Titan Davis will lead De Smet’s campaign.
