Sabrina Ionescu WENT OFF.
Sabrina Ionescu Joins Caitlin Clark in the WNBA History Books on Saturday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Liberty suffered a heartbreaking 101-99 loss on Saturday night. Rickea Jackson hit a game-winner at the buzzer for the Los Angeles Sparks, which snapped the defending champions’ five-game winning streak.
Sabrina Ionescu went off for the Liberty in this one, but even her incredible effort was not enough to carry New York to victory. The four-time All-Star stuffed the stat sheet against the Sparks with a game-high 30 points on 12-of-22 shooting, eight rebounds, six assists, four steals and two three-pointers in 36 minutes of action.
Sabrina Ionescu Rewrites the WNBA History Books
After another strong performance, Ionescu was able to make a bit of WNBA history by becoming one of just four players to register at least 30 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals in a game.

Joins Caitlin Clark, Candace Parker, and Brandy Reed as the only players in WNBA history to reach those numbers in a game.
As indicated in the post, Ionescu joined Caitlin Clark in the history books with Saturday’s stat-stuffing performance, along with future Hall of Famer Candace Parker and former All-Star Brandy Reed.
That’s elite company for Ionescu, who has been on a tear this season for New York. Entering Saturday’s contest, the 5-foot-11 guard has put up averages of 18.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.6 triples per game, leading the Liberty to a 17-7 record.
Ionescu and Co. Have The Fever’s Number
The Liberty have faced off against Clark’s Fever four times this season. New York has won three out of the four games, which includes their recent back-to-back victories on July 16 and 22. It is worth noting, however, that Clark was not able to suit up for both games as the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year continues to nurse a re-aggravated groin injury.
These two teams are not scheduled to play against each other for the remainder of the regular season, but it’s possible that they get to match up in the playoffs. Hopefully, Clark will be back on the floor if and when that time comes.
