The Arizona Diamondbacks’ front office is holding their collective breath after All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez left Monday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers when he was hit by a 96 mph fastball on his right hand.
The injury occurred in the ninth inning of Arizona’s 5-1 loss to Detroit while facing reliever Will Vest. Suarez was in obvious pain and immediately left the game.

According to The Athletic’s Cody Stavenhagen, Suarez is getting X-rays. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Suarez’s hand and finger were tender to the touch and is considered day-to-day for now.

The timing couldn’t be worse as Suarez is the Diamondbacks’ most valuable trade asset ahead of the July 31 deadline. Several contenders have been linked to the All-Star third baseman, including the Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Philadelphia Phillies.
If Suarez misses significant time, the Diamondbacks will be unable to trade the soon-to-be free agent for meaningful assets as they look to retool for next season.
Suarez is tied for second in the National League with 36 home runs and leads all of baseball with 87 RBI.
