One of the top wide receivers in the 2026 class is trending towards Auburn.
Nation's No. 2 WR Trending Toward Struggling SEC Program originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It's been tough sledding for the Auburn Tigers football program over the last five seasons.
They have a combined 28-33 record since the 2020 season and haven't won more than six games since 2019, when they went 9-4. Hugh Freeze is under a lot of pressure to win this season since he is 11-14 as head coach since taking over after the 2022 season.
Freeze could get a nice boost for the Tigers heading into this season since four-star wide receiver Jase Mathews is set to announce his commitment on August 8. He will choose between Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.
Jeffrey Lee of On3/AuburnSports.com is high on Auburn's chances to land Mathews and has logged a prediction for the program to land him.
Mathews is a four-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class and the sixth-best player in his home state (Mississippi), per 247Sports composite rankings. He is also the No. 117 overall recruit in the nation.
Auburn has the 70th-best recruiting class in the country, and Mathews would help improve that ranking if he committed to the program.
Let's see who Mathews commits to when he announces his decision in 13 days.
