The Detroit Tigers noticed Parker Meadows' right quad injury while watching him play in the 10-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, July 27.
Parker Meadows is back on the injured list.
The Detroit Tigers have placed Meadows — their primary center fielder who missed the first 60 games of the season with a musculocutaneous nerve injury in his upper right arm — on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain.
To replace him, the Tigers recalled infielder Andy Ibáñez from Triple-A Toledo.
"Fortunately, we think we caught it early, so there won't be a tear or a high-grade strain," Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said Monday, July 28. "We're hopeful that he's going to be back soon. I think the good part is we caught it early."
The Tigers noticed Meadows' quad injury while watching him play in the Tigers' 10-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, July 27, at Comerica Park.
He had been receiving treatment on his quad.
"If you go back and watch, he was a little guarded in center field, also a little guarded around the bases," Harris said, explaining the injury. "We approached him about it."
Meadows, 25, is hitting .200 with two home runs, 12 walks and 40 strikeouts in 38 games. Of his 25 hits, three of them occurred in his last two games.
The Tigers also lost starting pitcher Reese Olson for the remainder of the regular season on Monday. While the team is leaving open the chance of a return for the playoffs, it's been an unfortunate run of injury luck to start the week.
